According to reports, the captain told his party friends Kamal Nath and Manish Tewari that he can not continue in the party with such humiliation. Former Cabinet Minister Master Mohan Lal invited Singh to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and take over as soon as the discussions began.

Meanwhile, Delhi-based party observers Ajay Maken and Manish Tewari were met at the Chandigarh Airport by State Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and taken to the state party headquarters.
