Noida Tragedy: In a powerful display of “the fourth pillar of democracy,” a viral video has surfaced showing a journalist confronting a Noida Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) regarding the tragic death of 27-year-old techie, Yuvraj. The incident, which has sparked outrage across social media, highlights the lethal consequences of administrative negligence.
A Desperate Plea for Help: The Tragedy of Yuvraj
The incident occurred when Yuvraj’s car plunged into an open water body in Noida. According to reports, the young man managed to climb onto the roof of his vehicle and spent his final moments desperately dialing friends and sharing his location. Despite his pleas, rescue efforts failed to reach him in time.
”Three days have passed, and your authority hasn’t even been able to pull the car out,” the journalist remarked, pointing towards the murky water. “A 27-year-old is dead. He kept pleading for help, but no one reached him.”
”Taxpayers Aren’t Just Statistics”: Demanding Accountability
During the confrontation, the journalist refused to ask a standard “question,” instead choosing to remind the official of his duty. He emphasized that the middle class and taxpayers only look toward the government during disasters, yet they are often met with apathy.
The journalist highlighted several critical safety lapses in the area:
- Lack of Barricading: Open water bodies and drains remain unprotected.
- Poor Visibility: Absence of radium reflectors on dividers and barriers.
- Infrastructure Failures: Non-functional streetlights and unmarked speed breakers.
A Call for Empathy, Not Photo-Ops
The report strongly criticised the usual bureaucratic practice where officials visit accident sites only to take photos and send reports to senior officers in Lucknow. The journalist appealed to the SDM to take real action so that no other family has to lose a son due to such avoidable dangers. He said that ordinary people do not ask for much—they just want to be sure they can return home safely without risking their lives on the road.
